Cabinets need a good cleaning just like any other surface in the home. Before you grab a scrub brush and an alcohol-based cleaner, check out the tips below for safely cleaning every surface of your cabinets.
Stained wood, painted wood or MDF surfaces
– Dust with a dry cloth. This can be done frequently.
– Polish with an aerosol product that includes oils to nourish and revitalize the finish, and emulsifiers to dissolve dirt and sticky fingerprints. Apply the polish indirectly, spraying onto a clean cloth and then wiping cabinet doors. This can be done monthly.
– Never apply water to your cabinetry.
– Scuff marks and scratches can be repaired with touch up kits.
– If you need cloths, cleaning products or touch up kits, please contact Creative Tile Imports at 610-820-9504 or [email protected].
Laminate surfaces – both matte and high gloss
– Use a clean microfiber cloth moistened with a mild soap and water to clean cabinet surfaces. Dry cabinets immediately with another clean, dry cloth.
– Never use harsh chemicals including solvents, alcohol, ammonia, etc.
– Avoid spraying products directly onto the surface, as it may leave stains and marks.
– If your laminate cabinets are new, remove the protective film on the panels once installation is complete or a maximum of 6 months after delivery. Wait 24 hours after removing the film before cleaning.
Melamine surfaces – laminate, embossed and heavy textured
– To clean the surface, use a damp microfiber cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent.
– Acidic or abrasive cleaners can damage laminate surfaces; do not use them.
– Steel wool and other abrasive pads will damage plastic laminate. Don’t use them for cleaning.
Glass doors
– Use 99% isopropyl alcohol, citrus or vinegar based cleaners on a clean, non-abrasive cloth or paper towel to clean.
– If a heavy stain is present and does not come clean using the suggestions above, use isopropyl alcohol with a Magic Eraser by gently scrubbing until the mark is removed.
– Never use abrasive cleaning pads such as metallic sponge, solvents, strong detergents or other chemical agents when cleaning glass doors.
– For backpainted glass doors, follow above directions for the gloss and/or satin surface of the glass, opposite the painted side. For the backpainted water based coating, use a mildly damp (water only) nonabrasive cloth to gently clean the coated side of the glass. Never use abrasive cleaning pads such as metallic sponge, solvents, strong detergents or other chemical agents when cleaning backpainted glass doors.
Aluminum doors
– Use a clean cloth with a mild detergent to clean.
– Never use abrasive cleaning pads such as metallic sponge, solvents, strong detergents or other chemical agents when cleaning aluminum doors.
Door and drawer hardware
– Door and drawer hardware should be cleaned only with mild soap and water.
